Armenian Threads
Artist Sarah Greaves will discuss her recent project ‘Armenian Threads’ supported by the Armenian Institute and funded by the Arts Council England. Greaves’ work considers the lenses through which Armenian culture, history and identity are viewed. Her vibrant installations include ancient Armenian imagery, embroidered wooden sculptures, zoomorphic creatures and soundscape.
In response to her residency in Yerevan, Greaves created a new body of work that debuted at the Armenian Institute’s Salon Mashup show in 2013. Since then her research with the Armenian community in Manchester has inspired new works.
‘Armenian Threads’ will be shown at Salford Art Gallery 14 September-12 January 2014.
Sarah Greaves has exhibited widely across the UK, has been published in various books and journals internationally. ‘Armenian Threads’ has featured on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. Finalist for the Aesthetica Art Prize 2012, Winner of Whitbread Young Arts Achiever, 2005.
