AI Salon: Tjvjik

  • Zoom Meeting ID: 995-3011-9576 (map)

Tonight’s Salon begins a conversation on Zoom about a beloved Armenian short comedy film, Tjvjik (Fried Liver | Տժվժիկ).   It’s a  20-minute comedy classic believed to be the first film in Western Armenian, although it was made in Soviet Armenia, by the talented Iranian-Armenian director Arman Manaryan in 1962 as his final student work.

Tjvjik is based on a short story by Atrpet, and tells the bittersweet comedic tale of two acquaintances from Erzurum - Nerses akhpar, a poor man with a large family and Nikoghos agha, a rich relative of his. The film’s witty and memorable dialogue, cinematography and of course, the presence of heavyweights of Armenian cinema - Hrachia Nersisyan and Tsolak Amerikyan -- make it a classic.

We urge everyone to watch the film ahead of the Salon discussion.  You can watch the English subtitled version of the film here: https://youtu.be/lHjxqk6A6Ig and join us on 6 May, 7:30 with your impressions, opinions and recommendations for other comedies in Armenian or English with Armenian connections.

The ‘’doors’’ of the evening will open at 7:00 and we’ll start 7:30. You can join the meeting with these details:
