Animation Fiesta

The Armenian Institute presented seven animations by five fantastic filmmakers for our Animation Fiesta. You can watch some of the films below:

Under the Walnut Tree (trailer)

A young boy has been displaced during the massacre of his people and his family. After wandering alone for days, he is ready to give up but fights to continue to safety. His struggle for survival ends when he finds his mother singing to a lifeless body. Under The Walnut Tree is loosely based on the true story of Shahan Natalie, who survived the Hamidian Massacres (also known as the Armenian Massacres) which were the precursor to the Armenian Genocide.

Öteki (L’Autre / The Other)

Öteki means "the Other" in Turkish. This short film is a animation produced in 2010 with the collaboration of Vahan Kerovpyan for the Vicdan Filmeri festival (Films for conscience) organized by the Hrant Dink Foundation, Istanbul. The film won second prize of the jury.

The Xenophobe's Lament (La complainte du xénophobe / Մէկը ա՛ռ, միւսին զարկ)

A satirical look at human relationships by a group of varied nuts, fruits and flowers, accompanied by Collectif Medz Bazar soundtrack. This stop-motion film was created during a 6 day residency in Auvers-Sous-Montfaucon (Sarthe, France), organized by Prototypes Productions.

Firdus (Ֆիրդուս)
