Living | Building | Together

The Armenian Institute is proud to announce Living | Building | Together, a festival of architecture and culture, to highlight the importance of architecture and urbanism within the international Armenian social fabric. A series of talks, screenings, and workshops will reflect on the urban and the rural, Armenian communities, materiality and the way we live together in those constructed spaces.

This year's festival includes an online screening of The Art of Seeing, the Art of Remembering, in the presence of the director, Sascha Klamp, on 12 September, a hands-on workshop with ceramicist Maria Gasparian at Studio Pottery London on 19 September, a talk by Dr Harry Hagopian on “The Armenians of Jerusalem & the Armenian Quarter: Historical, Legal & Existential Challenges” on 26 September, and a talk by Sarhat Petrosyan titled “Untold Stories of Urban Armenia” on 21 November.

The Living | Building | Together festival, supported by the British Council, was curated in association with The Oshakan Project, an architectural summer school and research project aimed at documenting existing heritage assets in Armenia and imagining ways of unlocking their potential as hubs for social, economic and cultural activity.

The Oshakan Project began in response to Armenia’s rapid development and the growth of international tourism, both key threats to undocumented architectural heritage. Following the successful pilot summer school in July 2024, which taught students surveying techniques and held a series of community mapping workshops in the village, the Armenian Institute will celebrate the work of the school at the concluding event of the festival in January.
